Facebook Rolls Out Feature To Add Photos To Comments
Facebook has introduced a new feature again. Facebook is now letting its 1.11 billion members react to their friends’ status updates with photo comments. Facebook has introduced the ability to add photos to comments on Facebook profiles status updates. The feature is not available for pages or events yet.
The social network said Wednesday that it has started the global release of the new feature, which lets people add photos to comment threads using a new Attach a Photo button. To start, uploads of photo comments will be restricted to the Facebook Web site and mobile site, but simply viewing photo comments will be possible from Facebook’s mobile applications, the company said.
With the new feature, the comment box has a camera button available. As you click on it, Facebook gives you the option to add a photo. The photo then gets uploaded and is inserted a part of the comment. It works similar to the way photos are embedded in messages with the users having the option to add text along with the image. However, the feature for comments is restricted to only one image at the moment.
Most image formats including JPEG, PNG and TIFF that are supported for regular Facebook image uploads are supported with the comments feature as well. The roll out is underway so if in case you still don’t see the camera icon in your comment box, you should receive the option in the next few days.
he new addition could transform the social network into a more meme and teen-friendly zone, as photos turn commenting into a more playful activity. Facebook also updated its iOS app recently adding the ability for users to add status update icons, improved privacy controls and other features. The feature has been added ahead of Facebook’s event on June 20 where it is expected to introduce video sharing features on Instagram.

Chaudry Nisar:High-level meeting finalizes priorities to improve security
ISLAMABAD: A high-level meeting that deliberated on the law and order situation has finalized priorities to improve security, Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said on Thursday.
Talking to media after chairing the high-level meeting, the interior minister said that security affairs were discussed with the heads of security agencies and relevant departments.
He said that the government would soon announce the National Security Policy.
Deployment of Rangers and FC, as part of the VIPs’ protocols, would be withdrawn, however, they would continue to serve the President, the Prime Minister and the Chief Justice, Nisar said.
He further said a Task force would be constituted for enhancing coordination among security agencies and between security and intelligence agencies while another task force would also be formed on missing persons issue.
In the next three months, Islamabad police stations will be computerized and brought under a central command which would help share registered FIRs across the network, Nisar said.
The interior minister also announced to launch a grand operation against non-registered vehicles and underage drivers in next three days, saying that action would be taken against them.
“We have to bring spoilt children on the right track,” Nisar said referring to the youth who loiter outside public places in the capital.
Traffic laws will be strictly observed on three major roads of Islamabad in the first phase which would be translated onto other roads later.
A mass transit metro bus program, from Rawalpindi to Islamabad would be formulated on an urgent basis. A fly-over from Bara-Kahu will be constructed as a joint project between Islamabad and the Punjab government, Nisar said.
The interior minister said a list of most notorious officials of Islamabad Capital Territory and Capital Development Authority would be prepared and they would be sidelined.
Computerization of the land record will also take place. ‘I have been told this will take one year, but I have directed to complete it in six months,’ Nisar said.

Mathews Vows Fight Against India
CARDIFF: Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews on Wednesday vowed that his "fighting team" were prepared to put recent history behind them when they face India in the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy.
Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews on Wednesday vowed his "fighting team" were prepared to put recent history behind them when they face India in the semifinals of the Champions Trophy.
Thursday's match in Cardiff is a repeat of the 2011 World Cup final, which India won by six wickets in Mumbai despite a superb century from Sri Lanka's Mahela Jayawardene.
Since then the Asian rivals have met in 10 one-day internationals with India winning seven, Sri Lanka two and one tie.
Since then the Asian rivals have met in 10 one-day internationals with India winning seven, Sri Lanka two and one tie.
At the Champions Trophy, India were the only side who reached the semi-finals on the back of a perfect group record of three wins.
By contrast, Sri Lanka have had to battle their way through following a loss to New Zealand in a low-scoring opener in Cardiff.
But they recovered to beat hosts England and then defeated title-holders Australia at The Oval on Monday to seal their last four place.
Asked if Thursday's match represented "payback time" for Sri Lanka after their World Cup final heartbreak, Mathews replied: "There's no room for revenge in sport.
"But yes, if we can beat the Indians, I think it'll be a great achievement. On our day we can beat any team. I'm sure the boys are up for it."
Sri Lanka will be looking to bowling spearhead Lasith Malinga to disrupt a powerful India top order that includes in-form opener Shikhar Dhawan, the tournament's leading scorer so far with 264 runs, including two hundreds.
Slingshot seamer Malinga, renowned for his yorkers, is regarded as one of the world's most awkward bowlers to face, yet the paceman's average against India (40.88) is his worst against that of any opposing country.
Rain saw hosts Sri Lanka and India share the 2002 Champions Trophy title but there will be no division of the spoils if Thursday's match is a wash-out.
In that case, India will go through to Sunday's final at Edgbaston on account of having won Group B, with Sri Lanka runners-up in Group A, and will meet the winners of Wednesday's semi-final between England and South Africa.

On the occasion, Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch commended the role of Raza Rabbani on 18th amendment.
Nawaz Sharif(PM) Directs To Speed-Up Neelam-Jehlum Project
MUZAFFARABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday directed the concerned authorities to expedite construction work on Rs274.882 billion Neelam-Jehlum Hydro-power Project and make it functional till 2014-15 to overcome the power shortage issue in the country.
During his visit to the site of the project, the Prime Minister told the media that the concerned authorities had sought time for the completion of project till 2016, conditional to availability of financial resources but he had declined and instead instructed them to accomplish it till 2014-15.
He regretted that such like projects were conceived in the past but were not given due attention as there had been vested interests but they would have to change such culture.
The Neelam-Jehlum project could not be achieved during the last many years and now its cost had swelled to around Rs275 billion, he expressed his astonishment over delay in execution of the project.
"A 29 years long period has passed, but the project is yet to be completed," he exclaimed, and observed that nobody questioned the gross negligence over such delay.
The Prime Minister said that the power issue had become a genie and the people were fed up with it but assured that his government would utilize all the resources to complete the project.
"If such like projects were given priority in the past, these could have been achieved. We are fully committed to achieve such like projects and are dedicating each minute for giving relief to the masses," he reiterated.
The Prime Minister also cautioned against the existing financial resources by advising that they would have to cut down the additional expenditures.
"The wastage of national wealth through corruption and corrupt practices should be effaced forever," he declared, adding that the nation should also prepare itself for sacrifices in the greater national cause.
About energy related problems, the Prime Minister said that the government was devising an energy policy which might be finalized within a fortnight period, and soon he would apprise the nation about the roadmap and the steps in this regard in his upcoming address.
He said that he would also ask the nation to make contributions for achieving the benchmark of such a policy and expressed his optimism that both the government and the nation could together resolve the issue, which might also enable them generation of less expensive power in the country.
Responding to a query, he replied that terrorism issue was also being considered seriously. "The main issues are the lack of economic growth and rising poverty which gave rise to this issue," he maintained.
The Prime Minister said overseas Pakistanis and foreign investors were also focusing on the developments taking place inside Pakistan to ascertain prospects of their investment in future.
Referring to idea of construction of Khunjrab-Gwadar-Karachi road and rail project, he expressed his resolve that it would be materialized soon, terming it a 'game changer' for the country.
On June 24, a team would leave for China for consultation over the project with the stakeholders, he informed.
The Prime Minister said that they would establish economic zones in Pakistan because the South Asian region in future would be the focal point of global economic activities.
He said that they wanted relocation of Chinese industry to Pakistan with massive prospects of growth in South Asian region, a home to billions of people.

Pakistan shuts Quetta university after attacks
Pakistan's education authorities have shut down a women's university at the center of recent deadly twin attacks in the troubled southwestern Pakistani city of Quetta.
The education authorities said in a statement on Monday that Sardar Bahadur Khan University would remain closed for an indefinite period, Pakistan's Geo TV network reported.
The university is the only all-female university in the volatile southwestern Balochistan Province.
Meanwhile, the Balochistan Bar Council has also announced boycott of court proceedings across the region over the unprecedented tragedy.
The developments came after heavily armed militants bombed a bus carrying female university students in Quetta, the capital of the Balochistan Province, on Saturday afternoon, leaving 14 students dead and 19 others wounded.
About 90 minutes later, the militants attacked the hospital in the city treating survivors from the bus bombing, killing 11 more citizens and injuring 17 people.
Nurses, hospital security personnel and a senior city official were among those killed in the standoff between the attackers and security forces at Quetta’s Bolan Medical Complex.
The outlawed Pakistani terrorist group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi claimed responsibility for Saturday’s massacre in Quetta.
In January at least 81 people, mainly Shia Muslims, were killed in a bomb attack in the lawless city.
Thousands of Pakistanis have lost their lives in bombings and other militant attacks since 2001, when Pakistan entered an alliance with the US in the so-called war on terror.
Thousands more have been displaced by the wave of violence and militancy sweeping across the country.
Qamar warns of fines if gas not imported from Iran
ISLAMABAD: Former Federal Water and Power Minister, Naveed Qamar informed the National Assembly that if gas was not imported from Iran in 2014, Pakistan would have to pay billions in fines.
Qamar said that Pakistan should not rely on assistance from anyone as he questioned who would pay the fine if gas from Iran was not imported.
Meanwhile, Water and Power Minister Khawaja Asif said that the government’s energy policy would be announced in 20-22 days.
Chaudhry Pervaiz Ellahi:Punjab budget to add to unemployment
LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q)’s Punjab president, Chaudhry Pervaiz Ellahi Tuesday said that Punjab’s budget would only add to unemployment and added that the contradiction in word and action has come to the fore, Geo News reported.
In a statement issued from here, Chaudhry Pervaiz Ellahi said that special increase in the pensions of the widows of those martyred was imperative, while government employees salaries should be raised by 15 percent.
He said that the government’s intention was bad, as Wazirabad Cardiology Hospital could not be completed by the allocation of Rs40 million. He further said that allocating only Rs7 billion for peasants was nothing but a joke.
Afghanistan to kick off Taliban Peace Talks In Qatar
KABUL: Afghanistan will send a team to Qatar for peace talks with the Taliban, President Hamid Karzai said on Tuesday, as the US-led Nato coalition launched the final phase of the 12-year war with the last round of security transfers to Afghan forces.
Karzai's announcement was the first possible step forward in the peace process, which has struggled to achieve results despite many attempts, and is likely to be applauded by his Western backers.
“Afghanistan's High Peace Council will travel to Qatar to discuss peace talks with the Taliban,” Karzai said in Kabul, referring to the council he formed in late 2010.
“We hope that our brothers the Taliban also understand that the process will move to our country soon,” Karzai said of the group that ruled the country with an iron fist from 1996 to 2001.
There was no immediate comment from the Afghan Taliban.
Karzai said three principles had been created to guide the talks — that having begun in Qatar, they must then immediately be moved to Afghanistan, that they bring about an end to violence and that they must not become a tool for a “third country's” exploitation of Afghanistan.
Karzai called on the Taliban last month to fight Afghanistan's enemies in what was widely seen as a swipe against Pakistan days after the neighbours' security forces clashed on their joint border.
There was no immediate comment from Pakistan, which is said to have helped the Taliban take power in Afghanistan in the 1990s and is facing a Taliban insurgency itself.
An Afghan diplomatic source in Qatar said the Afghan Taliban planned to open an office there as early as Tuesday.
“There is a plan for the office to be open today,” said the source. “This will help start the peace talks again.”
A team of envoys from the Taliban flew to Qatar in early 2012 to open talks with the US government. But the Taliban suspended the talks in March 2012, saying Washington was giving mixed signals on the nascent Afghan reconciliation process.
An explosion in Kabul on Tuesday that targeted a senior member of the peace council illustrated concerns over how effectively the 352,000-strong Afghan security forces will fight the growing insurgency after most foreign combat troops depart by the end of next year.
Mohammad Mohaqiq, a prominent Hazara politician, escaped unscathed from the attack but three people were killed and 21 wounded, a government official said.

US Secretary John Kerry Not Visting In Coming Weeks
WASHINGTON: US Secretary of State John Kerry spoke over the weekend with new Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, vowing the two countries would continue cooperation, a top US official said Monday.
But there was no immediate announcement of any visits by Kerry to Pakistan in the coming weeks, State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said.
Kerry said on Sunday that "he looks forward to working with the prime minister and his government as we continue our cooperation and support of a more stable, secure and prosperous future for Pakistan and the region, she added.
"The secretary has said, and I've said on his behalf, he is very much looking forward to traveling to Pakistan," Psaki said, without providing further details. (AFP)
